Canopy Foundation is seeking one or two motivated volunteers who are interested in learning about grant research, proposal development, and nonprofit funding strategy. This is a unique opportunity for someone who wants hands-on experience in how community projects are funded, from identifying prospective funders to understanding proposal structure, budgets, reporting requirements, and impact measurement.

The volunteer will assist with researching local, regional, and national grant opportunities; organizing funder information; tracking deadlines; and supporting basic drafting or editing of proposal content. No prior grant experience is required, just effective writing skills, attention to detail, curiosity, and a desire to learn. Ideal candidates may include students, emerging nonprofit professionals, retirees with professional backgrounds, or community members exploring a career pivot.

As part of this role, Canopy Foundation will provide direct mentorship and training in grant research tools, proposal framing, funder alignment, and reporting best practices. Over time, volunteers will gain insight into how nonprofit organizations secure funding for housing, health, behavioral health, and community initiatives across Chaffee County and across the state. This is an excellent résumé-building opportunity for anyone interested in nonprofit leadership, public service, sustainability, or community development.

Role of the Board of Directors 

Purpose: SOIL Sangre de Cristo’s Board is responsible for the general management and supervision of the business and affairs of the organization. Responsibilities

Position Description: Board Member 

Purpose: As a member of the Board, the Board member will support the work of  SOIL Sangre de Cristo by providing leadership, oversight,and advocacy. Board members are elected by the Board to serve a staggered, two-year term. 

Note: SOIL SDC Bylaws further define specific duties for each Officer. Responsibilities 

Each board member will: 

1) Understand the SOIL SDC mission, policies, programs, and needs 2) Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings 3) Review outcomes and metrics to evaluate SOIL SDC impact, and regularly  

measure performance and effectiveness using these metrics by reviewing the agenda and supporting materials before board and committee meetings. 4) Approve the annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions, including being informed of and meeting all legal and fiduciary  responsibilities 

5) Faithfully read and understand SOIL SDC financial statements 6) Serve as an active advocate and ambassador for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships.  Active participation in fundraising is expected from all board members. 7) Help identify personal connections that can benefit SOIL SDC fundraising and  reputational standing 

8) Participate fully in one or more committees or task forces 

9) Assist in identifying and recruiting new Board members 

Board member expectations: 

1) Attend nine or more board meetings a year, plus an annual retreat, and actively participate in SOIL SDC activities. 

2) In addition to annual membership, SOIL SDC Board members will consider  SOIL SDC a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. So that SOIL SDC can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, SOIL expects to have 100% of Board members make an annual contribution within their capacity. 3) Sign an annual conflict of interest disclosure and update it during the year if necessary, disclose actual conflicts during meetings. 

4) Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of SOIL SDC and donors.

⬜ Communications and Media 

SOIL SDC regularly posts announcements, blogs, provides radio interviews, and press releases to keep its mission fresh and interesting to current  members, prospective members, and the public. Members help with writing  text, using CANVA and other visual design tools as well as posting on  Instagram and Facebook 

⬜ Events 

Members budget, plan, and staff an annual fundraising dinner, typically in the summer. In addition, members help plan and host the Speakers Series as well as plan and staff other periodic social/networking meet and greet events at area restaurants, wineries, and food producer venues. Organization, collaboration, good follow-through, and people skills are key.

⬜ Membership 

Committee members help identify new members, encourage annual renewals, and steward members to consider volunteering and higher gift amounts. Knowledge of the community, self-confidence, communication skills, and a desire to meet and make new like-minded acquaintances are key traits.

⬜ Loan Review 

This committee helps to coach loan applicants before making a submission.  Members review assigned applications and become the principal point of  contact and follow up throughout the loan process, presenting applications to the entire committee and to the Board. Loan applications may be received at anytime during the year, with members taking turns being responsible for guiding 2-3 applications per year. Financial experience not required, however  common sense and an ability to follow up on open questions are a plus.

Event Support Floaters serve as flexible, go-to volunteers throughout the day. This role is perfect for someone who is observant, proactive, and comfortable stepping in wherever support is needed. From helping presenters get settled to answering participant questions or troubleshooting small issues before they become big ones, floaters help create a seamless experience for everyone.

Each breakout session room will have a designated floater to provide light support — assisting with room transitions, timekeeping, materials, wayfinding, and quick problem-solving. Floaters may also help staff with last-minute adjustments, supply runs, or guest needs.

If you enjoy thinking on your feet, staying one step ahead, and being part of a collaborative team, this role is a great fit.

Clean-Up Crew volunteers play an essential role in closing out the event and restoring the Chaffee County Fairgrounds at the end of two full days of programming. Responsibilities may include breaking down tables and chairs, collecting signage and materials, packing supplies, tidying workshop spaces, and assisting staff with general event wrap-up tasks.

If you don’t mind rolling up your sleeves and enjoy being part of the behind-the-scenes effort that makes community events possible, this is a great fit.

Set-Up Crew volunteers play an important behind-the-scenes role in preparing the Chaffee County Fairgrounds to welcome more than 80 nonprofit and community leaders. This shift includes all aspects of event preparation — setting up tables and chairs, arranging workshop rooms, placing signage, organizing registration materials, assisting with light décor, and helping ensure everything is ready for a smooth start.

Check-In & Welcome Team volunteers help create a smooth and welcoming arrival experience for nonprofit leaders and community partners from across the Arkansas River Valley. The Consultation Corps is a volunteer-driven initiative designed to strengthen nonprofit capacity across Chaffee County. The program connects skilled community members with local nonprofits seeking targeted, project-based support - focused on practical help, thoughtful partnerships, and real deliverables that move organizations forward.

Program Overview:

-Volunteer consultants donate 5–10 hours of their time to support nonprofits with clearly defined projects.

-Areas of support may include: Operational planning, Financial strategy, Strategic planning, Fund development, Board development, Communications, Program design or Evaluation.

-Consultants work collaboratively with nonprofits to complete specific deliverables, offering hands-on support rather than general advice. 

CCCF manages the program as a matchmaking model, pairing volunteers and nonprofits based on needs, expertise, communication style, and availability.

Step 1: Complete the volunteer registration form and indicate your areas of expertise, interests, and availability.

Step 2: CCCF staff will contact you within 10 business days to schedule a short interview and discuss potential matches.

Step 3: Once approved, you will join the Consultation Corps and be contacted when a project aligns with your skills and availability.

Step 4: Complete a consulting assignment of 5–10 hours, focused on agreed-upon deliverables for the nonprofit.

What You’ll Do:

Answer calls on The Alliance’s 24/7 Help Line, offering emotional support, safety planning, and referrals to resources.

Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while responding to individuals in crisis.

Collaborate with staff and other volunteers to ensure quality, trauma-informed care.

Training & Support:
All Hotline Volunteers complete 30 hours of free training, covering:
confidentiality • advocacy • dynamics of domestic violence • effects on children • legal systems • documentation • accountability practices.

Ongoing support continues through monthly meetings with the Advocacy Program Manager to debrief, receive guidance, and strengthen your skills.

Commitment:
Because consistency matters to those we serve, Hotline Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of one year of service after training.

Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteers to work at the ReStore in Buena Vista. Volunteers perform many different tasks, including customer service, cleaning donated materials, stocking shelves, loading and unloading materials from vehicles, and assisting with donation pick-ups throughout the community. The ReStore is open Weds-Sat from 9 AM-4 PM. Please wear closed-toe shoes and dress appropriately for a retail/warehouse setting. For more information, visit www.chaffeehabitat.org. 

We could not build homes without your help at our ReStore! The ReStore receives donated goods and sells them back to the public at a discounted cost. Proceeds from the purchases made at the ReStore help build homes in our community. We always need help from donations processing to customer service to cleaning and organizing. The ReStore is open Wednesday-Saturday from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM. We also accept limited volunteers on Tuesdays to help with donation pick-ups.

Every Thursday CO Autism Consultants bring 2 kids to Mini Blessings Farm. We need 1 more volunteer to work with the student and a mini horse. This includes grooming and helping the kid walk the horse across the property or through the obstacle course.

Every Tuesday we bring one or two horses to the Prek in BV where the kids get to spend time with the horses, brush them and lead them in the outdoor fenced in area. We are looking a volunteer that can help consistently and ideally has horse experience, although we will train the right person. 

Every Tuesday we bring one or two minis to visit the elderly inside Columbine Manor Retirement Home

Every other Thursday we bring 1 or 2 mini horses to the middle school. The kids brush the horses and create an obstacle course to lead the horses through. We are looking for a volunteer that can consistently come and ideally has horse experience, although we will train the right candidate.

We are seeking more volunteers that can help with our many different programs. This would consist of helping kids to groom and lead the minis, and ensure the safety of everyone. We need help with all programs that are all over the calendar, but we are especially needing help with the PreK on Tuesdays 9:30am-11:15am, every other Thursdays with Avery Parsons 5th graders at 1:30pm-2:45pm, and Columbine Manor every other Tuesday 1:30pm - 4:00pm.

Looking for regularly scheduled volunteers to help out with morning OR afternoon clean up and exercising of the horses.  Volunteers clean up the stalls and pens and if time permits, take horses to the arena for regular exercise. The schedule is open to new volunteers, especially in the afternoons around 2:00 or later.

We need help feeding 7 miniature horses and 2 full sized horses at 7am and 6pm every day. We can split up the job between multiple people.

We are having a workaway-er come some time in November that will take over this job. We did have someone helping us but they are having car problems and not currently able to help. So this could be very short term until they are able to work it out.

Do you enjoy young people, particularly those with special needs? Most of our program participants do not drive and several have transportation issues getting to and from our social programs.  We are looking for drivers who can occasionally transport program participants. 

Looking for someone to occasionally take pictures of our operation, create social media posts and help improve our social media presence and community awareness.

Looking for Board Members to help guide this social enterprise that provides paid work experience, job training and social skills training for neuro-diverse people (such as people on the autism spectrum), enabling them to obtain and maintain meaningful employment.
