Advocacy Volunteers

Description

Help ensure no one has to navigate the aftermath of violence alone.

The Alliance is seeking compassionate, dependable volunteers to join its Advocacy Team and provide support to survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Chaffee County.

Advocacy volunteers are often the first point of contact for someone seeking help. Whether answering the confidential helpline after hours or assisting survivors in the office during the day, volunteers provide a calm, supportive presence while helping connect individuals with resources, navigate paperwork, set goals, and take the next steps toward safety and healing.

No previous advocacy experience is required—just empathy, reliability, and a willingness to learn. Volunteers receive comprehensive training and ongoing support from The Alliance staff.

Volunteer Opportunities

Helpline Advocate

Support survivors by answering the confidential helpline during evenings and weekends. Volunteers respond to calls, offer emotional support, provide information about available resources, and connect individuals with additional services when needed.

In-Office Advocate

Work alongside The Alliance staff during regular office hours (8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.) to assist survivors with resource navigation, paperwork, emotional support, and goal setting. Volunteers are asked to commit to approximately two flexible daytime shifts each week.

Training

The Alliance offers two pathways to become involved:

  • Introductory Training (2–4 hours): Begin making a difference quickly by supporting select volunteer opportunities while continuing your learning.
  • Certified Advocate Training (40 hours): State-mandated training that prepares volunteers to serve as fully qualified victim advocates, providing the knowledge and skills needed to confidently support survivors.

Whether you're able to answer the helpline from home, volunteer in the office during the day, or pursue full advocate certification, your time can make a lasting impact in someone's life.

We're Looking For Volunteers Who Are:

  • Compassionate and nonjudgmental
  • Excellent listeners
  • Dependable and respectful of confidentiality
  • Comfortable working with people from all backgrounds
  • Interested in supporting survivors and strengthening our community

If you're ready to become part of a caring team committed to empowering survivors beyond violence, we'd love to hear from you.
